I’m feeling a bit down today. I hate worrying about money. The money I’ll make from freelancing this month will be more than double what it was last month, which is exciting. But it still doesn’t cover all our expenses for the month, which is the depressing part.
And I don’t yet have health insurance. I should have taken care of this a long time ago, but there are times when I just don’t have the ability to deal with unpleasant things, so I push them from my mind and let it go until a problem occurs and I’m forced to deal with it.
So that time is now. I’ve called around for quotes on health insurance, and I honestly started crying on the phone. No, the insurance agent didn’t know it. I’ve never been self-employed before, so I’m used to the benefits of company sponsored insurance. To get insurance for myself, I had to submit to a battery of personal questions about my health that I didn’t feel were any of their business. I answered most of the questions right, but I don’t have perfect health, so that will up my premium.
When one guy quoted me $200-$300 per month on health insurance, I panicked and started crying. I already don’t have the money to cover all our bills. How am I going to come up with $300 extra? Not to mention that Georgia is a lame, backward state and doesn’t cover mental health treatments.
I’m frustrated and worried and I wish our country cared more about its citizens than it cared about the bottom line, which is a big fat dollar sign for the pharmaceutical industry. I’m sorry to make this post a ‘poor me’ post, but I know I have readers who care about me. And it makes me feel better knowing that you’ll think good thoughts for me. Thanks for listening. I’ll be back to posting happier thoughts soon.

If you are concerned about health care then my news will delight you. You can get well and stay well without the need of doctors. It takes knowledge though of what a person might be up against. The truth is shocking but the truth will set you free, empower you and ultimately bring you joy. Check out my website at http://www.annavictoria.net and see for yourself what causes most of today’s disease. It is not about diet or exercise. It is all about foul play and the stress that it causes that leads to disease. Foul play that is done by people who want to seek to control others, vent their jealousy or take revenge and it is done unconscionably.
May your prospers, regards Anna Victoria.
MG and I had to buy our own insurance for about a year and it was really expensive. One of the things we did to bring the premium down was get a large deductible (something like $5,000). This cut our payments roughly in half and we were able to afford it. Hope you can work something out and I’m glad the freelance writing is bringing in some dough!
There are ways to get mental health coverage. My insurance throws a fit over counseling and such but there are additional programs that not everyone knows about. I do not know what GA does but EVERY state has to have some way to take care of its citizens. I know this is not a very uplifting post for you as it took me a year or two to figure out where to go for help when I needed it but I would suggest going to the county/state health departments and seeing what they can do for you. You may not qualify for free health insurance ( who can these days?) but there are ways of getting the help you need ( counseling… there is always free counseling services through the countyhealth departments etc). In my doctors office they offer free counseling and they said almost all doctors offices offer this service. Granted you may not want counseling and/or need something else to help you, or the person may not be the best fit for you… but I do know there are a lot of options out there once I started looking.
If you lived in AZ I would give you the numbers to call but GA has got to have some options too. Don’t give up. It will take some fighting but you will figure this out and 200-300$ a month is really pricey for one person. Believe me. My husband used to sell health insurance and he could always find people something in a reasonable range. Good luck! I feel your pain! He used to sell blue cross insurance and I am sure he could get the names of someone in GA who worked for the same company he did. Those guys will do right by you. My husband only quit because of his schooling and had no extra time. Anyways, if you want any health quotes or referrals for someone in GA I could always ask my husband. He is really great at the sort of thing. Just a thought for you. Take care.
One other thing. Blue Cross Blue Shield is what he sold mainly, but there are many other insurances… GA probably doesn’t use that one… I don’t know. I am just saying the guys in the company can sell all sorts of different types of insurance in different states so you would not be limited. You could also look up World Financial Group… they have a branch in every state and ask to speak to a representative who had a health insurance license.
Thanks for all the helpful information, everybody. Amy, I’ll have to talk to you sometime. You know a lot about insurance! Anyway, thanks all.
